What is different here

A residence permit is tied to a job. Maternity leave is in the contract. Your baby needs a home-country passport and a Chinese visa before you can fly.

Public hospitals and the police operate in Mandarin. International hospitals speak English and charge for it. Elsewhere, bring a translator.

A public delivery can cost ¥15,000 and an international hospital ¥150,000. What your insurance reimburses, not the list price, usually decides which door is open.

The main public hospital used by families in Haidian. It has national-level obstetrics and IVF, a high-level NICU, and an international medical department if you want bilingual support at public-hospital prices.

A national referral hospital, often described as among the best in China. High-risk obstetrics is the reason to cross the city for it. Low-risk deliveries are often simpler at a capable hospital closer to home.
